Our funding supports the work that we do to provide sexual health education and sexual assault advocacy, develop our publications and videos, contribute to research examining the needs of Muslim communities, and train both mainstream professionals and Muslim leaders to better serve our communities. We value the safety and security of the communities we work with very much, and would not ever jeopardize that by accepting money from sources that surveil communities of color.
Because of its unique position in both Muslim and reproductive justice spaces, HEART is contributing to the growth of the mainstream movement by challenging narratives that do not consider or include American Muslim communities’ experience. At the same time, the organization is also challenging Muslim communities to address the silence and stigma around sexual assault. HEART is connected to the larger reproductive justice movement through its strategic ongoing partnerships and collaborations with a number of notable organizations.
